Mobility and Daily Living Aids for Vision Impairment

Blindness and vision loss can affect confidence, mobility and independence, making everyday tasks such as getting around the home, reading, cooking and managing medication more difficult. A range of products can help make daily life safer and easier, from mobility aids to home adaptations and assistive technology.

For information and support on sight loss, speak to your healthcare professionals and visit the NHS website. Our qualified trusted assessors are also here to support you and your care team every step of the way, so please call us on 01926 624432.

Where relevant we’ve linked to products elsewhere on our website, but if you have any questions about any of the products below, with or without a link, just contact us and we’ll be happy to help. Many items are available to buy or through our Warwickshire-wide mobility equipment hire service, and we offer a free home assessment with one of our qualified Warwick-based team.

Mobility Aids

Long canes and symbol canes help detect obstacles and changes in terrain a step ahead, giving confidence when walking. Walking frames and rollators are useful where vision loss is combined with balance or mobility difficulties, offering extra stability, while wheelchairs and mobility scooters support getting out and about for those with combined mobility and sight loss.

Shop our Walking Aids, Wheelchairs and Scooters ranges, including the Space LX rollator. Many of these are also available to hire rather than buy.

Everyday Living Aids

Talking clocks and watches announce the time out loud, removing the need to read a dial or display. Liquid level indicators clip onto a cup or mug and beep when a hot or cold drink reaches the top, helping avoid spills and scalds. Talking scales and talking blood pressure monitors read out weight or readings aloud for safe, independent use, and big button and talking telephones make it easier to see or hear who you are calling and stay in touch with family and friends. Bump-ons and tactile markers are small raised dots that can be stuck onto oven dials, washing machine settings or remote controls so they can be found by touch.

Ask our team about any of these, or browse our Daily Living Aids range.

Reading, Vision and Communication Aids

Handheld and electronic magnifiers enlarge text and images for those with some remaining useful vision. Large print and audio formats are available for books, calendars and daily planners, making them easier to read or listen to. Voice-activated assistants such as Alexa or Google Home can read messages, set reminders and control lights or heating using voice commands alone.

Medication and Safety

Talking pill organisers and medication reminders help ensure the right medication is taken at the right time without needing to read small print. Personal alarms, worn as a pendant or wristband, give reassurance that help is on hand if you have a fall or feel unwell.

Home Adaptations and Lighting

Brighter, well-placed task and contrast lighting can make a big difference for those with some remaining vision, and bright, high-contrast strips on the edge of steps make each stair easier to see. Handrails and grab rails provide extra support and a reliable point of reference when moving around the home, and non-slip mats reduce the risk of a fall in the bathroom, kitchen or hallway.

Shop our Home Adaptations range, including Grab Rails, the Path Light Grab Rail and the Straight Stairlift.

Repairs, Modifications & Servicing

Needs can change over time, and existing equipment doesn’t always need replacing. Walking aids, wheelchairs and scooters can often be adjusted or adapted, and our team can service equipment to keep it safe, comfortable and reliable.

Shop Wheelchair Accessories, or see our repair, modification & servicing team for adjustments, adaptations and servicing.

Many people find that a combination of a few small changes around the home, along with the right mobility or daily living aid, makes the biggest difference to their confidence and independence.
